This departure location is for those riding Mag-7 and exiting the Portal Trail and Poison Spider Mesa Trail. There is a large pullout on the river side of the road at the bottom of the Portal Trail. During high season, the area can fill up. There is additional roadside parking above and below.
Parking your car here will alleviate riding an additional 7-9 miles (11-14 km) back to town and allow easy, immediate access to your vehicle, which means food, water, shelter, and safety as soon as you're off the trail.
If you are riding Mag-7, you can just park your car here.
Please be ready to board the shuttle 15 minutes prior to departure.
From town, head North on HWY 191. Make a left onto HWY 279 Potash Road. Drive three and a half (3.5) miles to the roadside lot on the river side of the road. If traveling East on Potash Road, the parking area will be one-quarter of a mile past the Jaycee Campground.

The Portal hiking trailhead ascends to spectacular views of the Moab Valley, La Sal Mountains, and beyond. There is a pit toilet and trash receptacle in the Jaycee Campground located a quarter mile down the road.
